Coventry City's Ricoh Arena has been chosen as the Midlands venue to host football at the 2012 Olympic Games.

The stadium will temporarily be renamed the City of Coventry Stadium for the duration of the Olympic Games. The stadium will play host to 12 football matches during the Olympic Games, including the women's Bronze medal match. Coventry has also been confirmed as a London 2012 Live Site venue, which will see a big screen installed at Coventry Transport Museum in the city centre. London 2012 chair Lord Coe said: "The City of Coventry Stadium is a great venue, and will be an excellent host for football matches for the London 2012 Olympic Games".
Britain will have a unified football team at the 2012 Olympics. This will be the first time in 52 years a Great Britain Men's football team has competed at the Olympics and David Beckham has said he would like to play for the British team. It will additionally be the first time a British women's team will play at the Olympics. Both the USA and Jamaican track and field teams will also be located in the Midlands, with the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, residing and training at Birmingham University during the run-up to the Olympic Games.
